CLEVELAND CRUNCH TO PARTICIPATE IN “WALK FOR AMY” MIHALJEVIC EVENT THIS OCTOBER
Cleveland, Ohio, July 26, 2024 - The Annual “Walk for Amy” Mihaljevic will take place Oct. 26 at Cahoon Park in Bay Village, Ohio. The Cleveland Crunch is proud to announce its participation and support of the event.
Amy’s Story:
On October 27, 1989, Amy was abducted from the Bay Square Shopping Center parking lot in Bay Village, Ohio. In the weeks leading up to her kidnapping, she received phone calls from her abductor, who arranged to meet her after school on October 27 under the guise of buying a gift for her recently promoted mother. Witnesses at the shopping center saw Amy talking to a white male, believed to be in his 30s. She was last seen walking with him through the parking lot, and no vehicle was observed. Soon after the abduction, her body was discovered.
The Mihaljevic family has created this event to honor Amy. Her family described her as an “energetic girl who loved staying active riding horses, riding her bike with friends, or playing in the neighborhood.” This race is designed to “celebrate Amy's enthusiasm, zest for life, and love for people.”
"I am overwhelmed by the support of our surrounding communities, Mark Kevesdy and his family for organizing this event, and caring organizations like the Cleveland Crunch," said Mark Mihaljevic, father to Amy and Ryan Ruiz, Cleveland Crunch director of sales. "The fact that so many people behind the scenes keep Amy's case alive after thirty-five years, amazes me. Hopefully, one day we will be able to not only celebrate Amy's life, but also the solving of this case."
Amy’s killer has not yet been found. Your financial contribution to the event as a walker, runner or donor will help bring justice into the investigation of Amy’s killer.
“The Amy Fund was established as a budget line item to help fray the costs for the ongoing investigation. The AMY FUND allows the police department to tap into funds without the wait time that occurs before receiving grant money. DNA testing for one hair currently costs $7,000. The police department estimates that it will spend upwards of $70,000 on DNA testing in the upcoming year,” according to the event description.
