Crunch Sets Franchise Record with Most Goals Scored in Match Against Ohio Extreme

The Crunch hosted newcomers Ohio Extreme for their home opener on Saturday night and secured a 23-0 win, setting a franchise record for the most goals scored in a match.


The Cleveland Crunch aimed to bounce back on Saturday night after a season-opening loss to Grand Rapids. Ohio Extreme also sought redemption after their previous loss to Chicago last weekend but fell short.


The Crunch wasted no time in the first quarter, with Aidan Bozak scoring at the 13:30 mark. Parker Csiszar followed shortly, increasing the lead to 2-0. Kevin Blackwood also scored in the first quarter, and the Crunch led 4-0 at the end of the first.


Bozak continued his momentum in the second quarter, scoring at the 14:03 mark. Sami Mutemwa joined in, making the score 6-0 in favor of the Crunch. Mikey Derezic and Blackwood added more goals, putting the Crunch up 8-0. Blackwood completed a hat trick with his third goal at the 8:05 mark, putting the Crunch up by 9. Captain David Jordan scored, putting the team into double digits with a score of 10-0 going into the half.


The Crunch emerged stronger in the third quarter. Derezic scored 30 seconds into the third, and Bozak completed a hat trick shortly after. With the Crunch leading 12-0, Blackwood and Derezic continued the scoring, making it 14-0. 


Bozak led the scoring in the fourth, scoring his 4th goal and putting the Crunch up 16-0. Mutemwa got his second score of the game, making it 17-0. Admir Suljevic scored his first goal to increase the lead to 18-0. Bozak scored his 5th goal, and the Crunch saw goals from Ryan Minick, Suljevic, Daniel Koniarczyk, and Bryan Kern, breaking the Cleveland Crunch record for most goals in a game. The final score: Cleveland Crunch 23, Ohio Extreme 0.


The Crunch had 3 players score 3 or more goals and the Man of the Match, Aidan Bozak, with 5 goals. When asked about what it was like getting the first win of the season at home in front of the fans Bozak said, “It’s no better feeling…they do so much for us, supporting us.” The Crunch broke the team record of goals scored in a game with 23. Bozak contributed to 5 of those. “We used this game to work on some things we were shaken up on in the first game,” Bozak said. The Crunch had everything working in their favor tonight, when asked what was working for them tonight, Bozak said, “The fans are what we had working tonight, they do everything for us.” The Crunch will take on Ohio Extreme at home on Jan. 27th.
